Our mobile and handheld based Electric Billing applications provides easy and more accurate way for electric billing. The project will implement a mobile based interface through which agent can enter the consumer id and his meter readings with the image of meter showing the clear meter reading on it and then he sends the collected information to server over a GPRS communication medium. This approach will minimize the manual processing, replacing it with electronic data, imaging, workflow, and other web based tools to manage the rest of billing process. This also reduces the overall operational cost and manual errors involves in manual billing process. Its also helps in stoping any kind of manipulation in meter reading by verifying the meter reaing entered manually and with the caputred image.

Electric meter billing is done with the help of handheld POS terminal (Linux supported device) or Mobile device (JAVA supported device). Mobile devices communicates with the server application over GSM/GPRS connectivity. The application flow consist of following steps:

• First agent enters the consumer id and his current meter reading.
• In the next step he clicks an image of electric meter showing the readings.
• Now System sends the electronic data to server for further processing.
• Server returns with the response giving consumer details with net reading and amout to pay.
• Centralized web application gets updated instantly and helps providing anytime-anywhere information. All devices remains synchronized with data center.
